A native of Lubbock, Tex., Moeser earned a bachelor of music degree with honors (1961) and a master's of music in musicology (1964) from the University of Texas at Austin, completed advanced study in Berlin and Paris as a Fulbright scholar, and holds a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Michigan (1967).
