  James Morris Colquhoun Colvin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
James Morris Colquhoun Colvin (August 26, 1870 - December 7, 1945) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
On the night of 16/17 September 1897, in the Mohmand Valley, N.W India, Lieutenant Colvin was with another lieutenant (Thomas Colclough Watson) who collected a party of volunteers and led them into the dark and burning village of Bilot, to try to dislodge the enemy who were inflicting losses on our troops.
Colvin was Mentioned-in-Despatches (the Despatch, dated 20 August 1918, of ___ Sir C.C. Munro) vide p.13907 of London Gazette No. 31031, dated 26 November 1918.

On the night of 16/17 September 1897, in the Mamund Valley, North-West India, Corporal Smith, with other men, responded to a call for volunteers and followed two officers of the Royal Engineers (James Morris Colquhoun Colvin and Thomas Colclough Watson) into the burning village of Bilot, in an attempt to dislodge the enemy.
Afterwards, although wounded, Corporal Smith continued fighting steadily and coolly, and also helped to carry the wounded to the place prepared for them.

He was 30 years old, and a Lieutenant in the Corps of Royal Engineers, British Army during the Mohmand Campaign, India when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.
On the night of 16/17 September 1897 in the Mamund Valley, North-West India, Lieutenant Watson with another lieutenant (James Morris Colquhoun Colvin) collected a party of volunteers (including James Smith) and led them into the dark and burning village of Bilot, to try to dislodge the enemy who were inflicting losses on our troops.
After being wounded and driven back by very heavy fire at close quarters, Lieutenant Watson made a second attempt to clear the village and only gave up after a second repulse and being again severely wounded.
