By James Slater: Although he is best known today as a fighter who was one of boxing’s most prominent Trial horses/journeymen, there was a time when James Tillis was a highly tipped prospect.
Not surprisingly, due to the fact that James’ fights eventually and regularly became losing efforts, this one too was a loss for the man also known as “Quick.” It was the 22nd time he’d tasted defeat in a very long career.
James was tying him up and using his still quick hands to good effect.

Tillis is suprisingly good humoured about his disheatening story, and this book is written in Tillis's country "twang" and slang and will often have you laughing out loud.
Years later Tillis would find out the reason for his sudden stamina problems late in fights were down to a series of severe allergies to things like milk, eggs and all the other things a boxer would pack himself full of leading up to a fight.
Tillis' only victory against a top ten fighter was a decision he was "given" over Earnie Shavers in June 1982 when Shavers, at age 37, was well past the prime of his career.
