Justice, who was adept with several languages, propositioned her in German, leaving her husband to live with her new love until his death in 1975.
Justice’s legacy, however, is not only that of portraying some of the most enduring, as well as endearing, images of British authority figures in post-war British cinema but his interest in nature, politics and especially falconry.

Justice lived in or around Wigtown in the 1940s and 1950s, spending much of his time wildfowling in Wigtown Bay, fishing for salmon on the Bladnoch, Cree and Luce, and providing lively company at any drinks party in the Machars.
This theory is backed up by the fact that Justice was a regular guest at the Officers’ Mess at Baldoon Aerodrome and seemed to have a limitless supply of Royal Navy tobacco.
The most remarkable thing about James Robertson Justice must surely be the affection with which he is remembered, despite his frequent reprehensible behaviour.
