James Houser improved his record to 3-0 on the season with a nice start in the Biscuits 5-1 win over Birmingham.  He gave up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five shutout innings.
James Houser had a tough start in the Biscuits loss to the Stars.  He gave up three runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings of work.  Jarod Matthews took the loss and he was shelled for three runs in just 1/3 of an inning.
James Houser had a decent start that didn’t end up going to waste.  He gave up two runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.  Brett Wayne was very impressive in the final two frames to pick up the win.  He struck out five and gave up two hits.

In 1892 Garran was appointed president of the newly-formed council of arbitration and on accepting the position resigned from the legislative council so that no question of political influence could arise, but two years later he resigned from the council of arbitration and again entered the legislative council.
He was vice-president of the executive council and representative of the Reid (q.v.) government in the council from March 1895 to November 1898, and showed remarkable energy in carrying out his duties in spite of the frailty of his constitution.
Sir Ernest Scott, in A Short History of Australia, referring to his unpopularity says "he was, in truth, a singularly able and most conscientious and high-minded governor".

The Reid surname is derived from the Old English word "read," meaning "red." It is most likely that the name was used as nickname for someone with red hair, before becoming their surname.

The Ninth James Hogg Society Conference is to be held at The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland from 5-7 July 2000.
James Bertram (born 1824) was apprenticed at the age of thirteen to William Tait, proprietor of Tait's Edinburgh Magazine, which was then edited by Mrs Christian Isobel Johnstone, author of the novel Clan-Albin (1815), and, under the pseudonym of Margaret Dods, author of one of the most popular cook-books of the age.
James Clarke and Co were also publishers of a series of children's chapbooks in coloured wrappers, with wood engravings, and catalogues on the back covers: two copies, of Aladdin and Cinderella, bear the dates 1829 and 1836 respectively.

 CUMBERLAND COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
James had a son Arch[a][i]bald Alexander born 1861 in St. Stephen NB and went to Parsboro and married Rebecca Jane York[e] in Oct 21 1886.
The elder James was an 83 yr old widower at the time of the 1881 census--but this is the last I have on him.
Greenfield, James and his descendants...he is an immigrant from County Down, Northern Ireland and arrived in Cumberland Co. in 1820 where he petitioned the crown for land for himself, his wife Jane, and his three children...he lived in River Hebert, and in Amherst...he is buried in Trinity United Cemetery in River Hebert...
