Jennie Lee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
She insisted on being sponsored by Robert Smillie and her old friend, James Maxton to be introduced to the commons, rather than by the leadership's preferred choice of sponsors.
In her childhood she met socialist leaders such as James Maxton (who would have a profound influence on her) and David Kirkwood.
She was totally opposed to Ramsay Macdonald's decision to form a coalition national government, and in the 1931 general election she lost her seat in parliament.

 The Growlery (May 2003)
The series gets its name from James Loeb (1867-1933), a philanthropist who also founded the Institute of Musical Art, now part of the Juilliard School.
Robert Smillie (1857-1940) was a labor leader and politician opposed to Britain's involvement in the First World War, while Cramp was the name of a famous Philadelphia family of shipbuilders.
The Loeb Classical Library is perhaps best known to college students majoring in Greek and Latin (an endangered species nowadays, alas), who consult the translations when they are stumped trying to construe a passage in the original languages.

 Nowt2Do.Com Review - 42nd Street
The billed stars, Ruth Madoc and James Smillie, both do well at their parts, especially James Smillie as the harsh, but fair stereotypical director.
The star off Pretty Lady, Dorothy Brock (Ruth Madoc) is a problem for the director, because she is married to the man who is putting in the money for the show, but having an affair with someone else.
The real star off the show for me though was Lara Pulver, the girl who actually becomes the star of the musical "Pretty Lady." She is outstanding, and brings the stage to life.

 James Keir Hardie
With the support of Robert Smillie, the leader of the Lanarkshire miners, Hardie began advocating socialism and in 1888 stood as the Independent Labour candidate for the constituency of Mid-Lanark.
In June 1894, Hardie suggested to the House of Commons that a message of condolence to the relatives of the 251 coal miners killed by an explosion in a colliery near Pontypridd, Wales, should be added to an address of congratulations on the birth of a royal heir (the future Edward VIII).
He should address the Speaker on labour questions and give utterance to the same sentiments in the same language and in the same manner that he is accustomed to utter his sentiments to the local Radical Club.
