Sir James Stansfield (October 5, 1820 - February 17, 1898), English politician, was born at Moorlands, (Provincial capital and largest city of Nova Scotia) Halifax, the son of James Stansfeld, a county-court judge.
In 1863 he moved in the (The lower house of the British parliament) House of Commons a resolution of sympathy with the (A long (usually round) rod of wood or metal or plastic) Poles, and two months later was made a junior lord of the admiralty.

 James Stansfeld - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sir James Stansfield (October 5, 1820 - February 17, 1898), English politician, was born at Moorlands, Halifax, the son of James Stansfeld, a county-court judge.
In 1864, as the result of charges made against him by the French authorities, in connection with Greco's conspiracy against Napoleon III, Disraeli, in the House of Commons, accused him of being in correspondence with the assassins of Europe.
Stansfeld was vigorously defended by Bright and Forster, and his explanation was accepted as quite satisfactory by Palmerston.

reason: edith whiteley grew up in threlkeld cul (actually in my house) where her father james was the schoolmaster.
she went to australia early in 1923 and married ernest james whita(c)ker that year in perth.
james whiteley (who did a lot more for the village of threlkeld than just being schoolmaster) was believed to be a keen photographer and i am hoping to find that the family still has pictures of the village from the early 20th century.

Joziah married Martha, daughter of James Stansfeld, of Sowerby, and thus the families of Tillotson ad Stansfeld became connected by marriage.
Probably the reason that no minister held the living for a long period after Mr Root, had been ejected, was that several of the principal families left the church, and the endowment was not of itself sufficient to maintain a minister.
The Rev. James Bowker was banished from Sowerby for immoral conduct.
