James Stephen "Jim" Hogg (March 24, 1851-March 3, 1906) Born near Rusk, Texas, Hogg was a Texas lawyer and statesman, and the first native to become Governor of Texas.
Hogg is often remembered for naming his daughter Ima Hogg, an odd name which derived from a poem written by James' brother.
Hogg did so well economically as a lawyer, that he built a second Hogg family fortune and was able to help the University of Texas as well as various Texas cities with monetary presents.

OVERNOR James Stephen (Jim) Hogg, in whose 1892 reelection bid House wielded considerable influence, was the first native-born governor of Texas, serving as the nineteenth governor of the state from 1891-1895.
Hogg was born on March 24, 1851 near Rusk in Cherokee County, one of five children of Lucanda and Joseph Louis Hogg, an attorney and brigadier general in the army.
In 1886, Hogg was elected as Democratic Attorney General of Texas, and served from 1887 to 1891, during the two terms of Governor L. Ross.

Mildred Hogg born 27 June 1780 in Newberry County, SC and died 30 March 1851 (age 70) in Henry County, GA. In 1799 when Mildred was 18, she married Johnson Fargason, in Newberry County, SC, born in 1771 and died in McDonough, Henry County, GA on 13 February 1860 (age 89).
Elizabeth Hogg born April 1804 in Newberry County, SC and died December 1884 (age 80) in Oktibbeka County, MS.  On 6 December 1829 when Elizabeth was 25, she married Isham Boatner, in Tuscaloosa County, AL, born in May 1804 in SC and died February 1868 (age 63) in Webster County, MS.
Thomas Hogg born 16 April 1768 in Newberry District, SC and died 1849 (age 80) in Cherokee County, TX.  Before 1796 when Thomas was 27, he married Martha Chandler in Newberry County, SC.  She was born in 1772 in Newberry District, SC.  Thomas served in War of 1812.

 Quitman, Texas
James Stephen Hogg, better known as Governor Jim Hogg (and possibly even better remembered as the father of Miss Ima Hogg), is one of the town's most famous citizens.
Hogg published the Quitman Daily News in 1873, was later justice of the peace, county attorney, state attorney general, and governor of Texas from 1891 - 1895.
The Miss Ima Hogg Museum displays memorabilia of Northeast Texas and of the family.

James Stephen Hogg, the first native governor of Texas, was born near Rusk on March 24, 1851, the son of Lucanda (McMath) and Joseph Lewis Hogg.
Hogg and two of his brothers were left with two older sisters to run the plantation.
Hogg forced the restoration to Texas of railroad headquarters and shops, as a result of which depots and road aids were repaired or rebuilt, and he gradually compelled the railroads to respect Texas laws.

Perhaps one of Hoggs finest moments at Cardiff was when he scored one of the Cardiff Goals in their defeat of the invincible Tottenham Hotspur in front of 48,000 (yes 48,000) fans at Ninian Park Cardiff on March 11th 1961 (the Spurs went on to take the League and FA Cup double).
Hoggs goal is described in the Cardiff club history as ‘one of the finest scored on the ground’.
Hogg resented their joint expulsion and never forgave the Oxford authorities, and he wanted to depict himself as a heroic victim in that incident--which meant distorting the evidence at Shelley's (and Oxford's) expense.

The house that James Hogg was born in was on St. Mary's loch in Ettrick, Selkirkshire.
Poet known as the Ettrick Shepherd, James Hogg spent most of his youth and manhood as a shepherd and was almost entirely self education.
Authorized by Mary Shelley to write a life of her husband, Hogg issued (1858) the first two volumes, which were biased, inaccurate, and overly devoted to incidents in Hogg's own life; the family eventually withdrew the materials from his use.
