ATLANTA — Former Palm Beacher James Vincent Sullivan escaped the death penalty Tuesday, with jurors returning a unanimous decision that he should spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Lita McClinton Sullivan was shot to death Jan. 16, 1987, by a gunman posing as a flower delivery man. Prosecutors contend Sullivan had his wife killed to avoid losing millions in a divorce.
Sullivan avoided prosecution for murder until Belinda Trahan came forward in 1998, identifying her former boyfriend, Phillip Anthony Harwood, as the man whom Sullivan hired to arrange the murder.
