  Handbook of Texas Online:
James V Allred, Texas jurist and governor, was born in Bowie, Texas, on March 29, 1899, son of Renne and Mary (Henson) Allred, Sr.
Allred believed that sufficient state revenue should be raised by a more equitable system of property valuation and a more efficient use of existing revenues, rather than by increased general taxation.
Late in Allred's second term as governor, his nomination by President Roosevelt to a federal district judgeship was confirmed, and upon the completion of his gubernatorial term, he assumed his position on the bench.

GOVERNOR JAMES V. A man equal to the burdens of a troubled era in Texas was James V. Allred, who was first elected governor in the crime-plagued and Depression-sad year of 1934.
James V. Allred was born in Bowie, Texas, March 29, 1899.
Jimmie Allred finished high school and business college, and entered Rice Institute, where free tuition was provided for the bright youth of Texas; but free tuition is not quite enough to keep a good mind functioning in a healthy body, and as a late teenager with a good appetite, this youth had to drop out.

Steven H. Wilson | Brown over "Other White": Mexican Americans' Legal Arguments and Litigation Strategy in School ...
James DeAnda, an attorney at the forefront of the late-1960s effort to change the terms of the Mexican American claims from due process to equal protection, himself had often used the "other white" argument in the courtroom.
James DeAnda's colleague John Herrera was a general practitioner, that is, a lawyer who both accepted criminal defense work and represented clients in civil cases.
Rather, he requested that Judge Allred order the Driscoll CISD trustees to end the current system, to maintain no separate classrooms beyond the first grade, to separate first grade children only after proper scientific tests, and to move a separated student to the English-speaking class after he or she showed sufficient understanding.
