James Widdoes began his career as an actor, who may be best remembered as Hoover in the hit film “National Lampoon’s Animal House.” He also starred with Scott Baio in the CBS series “Charles in Charge” and was seen in many other films and television series.
James has directed numerous episodes of “The King of Queens” for CBS and is currently the series director of “Twins” starring Melanie Griffith and Sarah Gilbert on the WB.
James has also been the series director for two of the most recent winners of the People’s Choice Awards for Best New Comedy, “My Wife & Kids” starring Damon Wayans and “8 Simple Rules”, for which he received a DGA Award nomination for the ‘Goodbye’ episode dealing with the death of John Ritter’s character.

Pittsburgh native James Widdoes is executive producer/director on the series, which will air new episodes Sunday and Monday at 9 p.m.
Widdoes, who began his career as an actor (he was Hoover in "National Lampoon's Animal House"), previously executive produced "Dave's World," "Can't Hurry Love" and "Brother's Keeper" with his business partner, Jonathan Axelrod.
Widdoes said The WB spent a lot of money promoting "Movie Stars" ("Their money, not ours."), filming promos in Malibu and extending the contracts of the cast long enough to see how the sitcom performs in the ratings.

Pittsburgh native James Widdoes, a regular director on ABC's "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," was directing the episode that was in production last week during which star John Ritter first began to feel ill.
Widdoes set out for the hospital, arriving 15 minutes after Ritter died.
Widdoes and other members from the "8 Simple Rules" cast and crew gathered Sunday to be interviewed for a tribute to Ritter that aired last night on ABC.

An energetic, easily likable performer, Widdoes began acting professionally while still in college in a production of "The New Amen Show" at the Diners Playhouse in Lexington, KY in 1974.
Widdoes segued into the CBS series "Park Place" (1980), as an inexperienced lawyer, and later was seen as the father of a brood of three who hires Scott Baio as their caretaker in the first and only network season of "Charles in Charge" (CBS, 1984).
After the failure of "Charles", Widdoes moved behind the camera, helming episodes of "Raising Miranda" (CBS) in 1988, and "Just the Ten of Us" (ABC) in 1989.

They find their way to Delta, which Larry darkly notes has a reputation as "the worst house on campus." Among Delta’s inhabitants: ladies’ man Otter (Tim Matheson), low-key sarcasm king Boon (Peter Riegert), nervous spokesman Hoover (James Widdoes), motorcycle-riding (through the halls and up stairs) D-Day (Bruce McGill) and unpredictable, unstoppable force Bluto (John Belushi).
Matheson and Riegert make a great razor-tongued double act, McGill has his own brand of eye-widening insanity, and Hulce and Furst are both endearing as newcomers to the kingdom of madness.
Donald Sutherland is very funny as a reasonably hip professor and Vernon, Metcalf, James Daughton and Kevin Bacon all manage to be hilarious as the smarmy fascists theoretically running the show.
