Topic: James Zogby

In the News (Thu 31 Dec 09)

Is James Zogby a "Builder for Peace"? - Middle East Quarterly
Zogby's effort failed and Abu Eain went on to spend four years of a longer sentence in an Israeli jail (and was released in the prisoner exchange of 1985, when Israel traded 1,500 Palestinians for three of its soldiers).
Zogby now portrays his disillusionment with the peace process as a consequence of Binyamin Netanyahu's election in May 1996, but in fact his severe criticism of the Israeli government dates right back to the early months after the Oslo accords were signed, when others were still positive, if not euphoric, about the peace process.
Zogby is the outsider Arabs' insider who does not lose sight of his goal in Arab politics even as he becomes increasingly involved in American ethnic politics.

The friendly Republicans - article by Daniel Pipes
On one side, Zogby found, "every Republican candidate has promised to make the embassy move a priority for his administration." In contrast, both Gore and Bradley "have taken more cautious stands," not endorsing a move of the embassy outside the context of Israel's negotiations with the Palestinians.
All four leading candidates endorse the current tough approach to Iraq, leading Zogby to describe their outlook as one of "near consensus." But Republicans take what Zogby calls "a characteristically tougher approach," with all of them advocating steps to bring down the regime of Saddam Hussein, something the two Democrats shy away from.
Zogby can rail against the candidates' agreement as "pandering" to Jewish voters with "worn-out cliches" and "dangerous and provocative posturing," but he can do little about it.
