Flavia Iulia Helena, also known as Saint Helena and Helena of Constantinople, (AD c.248 - c.329) probably born in Drepanum (afterwards re-named Helenopolis) on the Gulf of Nicomedia, was the first wife of Constantius Chlorus, and allegedly the daughter of an innkeeper.
Her feast day (as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church) falls on August 18 and as a saint of the Orthodox Christian Church is on 21 May, together with her son's feast day, since Orthodox Christian Church also honours Constantine the Great as a saint.
Saint Helena has no major railways, and most of the highways are on the island of Saint Helena, which has 118 km (98 km paved and 20 unpaved).

Uninhabited when first discovered by the Portuguese in 1502, Saint Helena was garrisoned by the British during the 17th century.
Among the governors appointed by the company to rule at St. Helena was one of the Huguenot refugees, Captain Stephen Poirier, who attempted unsuccessfully to introduce the cultivation of the vine.
After Napoleons death the East India Company resumed full control of St. Helena until the 22nd of April 1834, on which date it was in virtue of an act passed in 1833 vested in the Crown.
