Wingo was as a surprised as the rest of the racing community when Ganassi informed him that Montoya would be driving the No. 42 Dodge Charger in 2007 replacing Mears.
Wingo may be in for his most challenging year as a crew chief transitioning the former open-wheel star to the heavier stock cars, but it’s a challenge he is looking forward to heading into 2007.
Wingo and Montoya are both committed to the CGRFS organization and putting the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge back in victory lane.

Last year, it was Jamie McMurray who bolted Ganassi Racing for a spot at Roush Racing, and now it's Casey Mears who decided this week to leave Ganassi at the end of this year for a likely spot at Hendrick Motorsports.
Wingo was the crew chief for McMurray, and has the same job for Mears.
Wingo said he didn't know why the drivers were leaving Ganassi, but there was nothing the team could do other than try to find the best possible replacement for next season.
