  Soren appears before Jamtara court
Beleaguered Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren, now in judicial remand in Ranchi in connection with the Chirrudih massacre, was produced on Friday before a Jamtara court, which set August 18 as the next date for his appearance.
On August 18, the court will hand over police papers under CrPC section 207/208 to Soren and another accused Nathinial, who is already in jail for his alleged involvement in the same case.
Soren is in a make-shift jail in Jamtara for his alleged involvement in the 1975 Chirrudih massacre.

Tension gripped Jamtara town today after JMM workers enforced a “bandh” in protest against the death of party block vice-president after he was allegedly assaulted by three policemen.
Jamtara deputy commissioner Mohan Lal Rai told The Telegraph over telephone that while his bodyguard Churka Murmu has been arrested this morning, hunt is on to apprehend two other absconding policemen.
Rai said though an FIR has been lodged at the Jamtara police station on August 15 itself against three policemen for attempted murder, the case was converted to homicide after Sarkhel’s death today.

Jamtara: A sub-divisional judicial magistrate issued an arrest warrant yesterday against Union Coal Minister Shibu Soren in connection with the 1975 Chirrudih massacre case.
The Jamtara police said that after the murders, Soren went underground and started touring the tribal-dominated southern stretches of Bihar (now Jharkhand) to unite tribals to bring about an uprising.
According to sources at the Jamtara Civil Court, on September 6, 1986, the sub-divisional judicial magistrate had issued orders for the surrender of Soren and others involved in the Chirrudih massacre.

Police are maintaining vigil in every nook and corner of Jamtara to ward off any possible trouble when former Union minister Shibu Soren appears before the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s (SDJM) court in the Chirrudih massacre case.
The police presence is heavier around the Jamtara SDJM court in view of the fact that JMM leaders plan to bring their supporters from the interiors when Soren appears before the court.
In Jamtara, which comes under Dumka LS constituency represented by Soren, no BJP leader countered the JMM allegations except former CM Babulal Marandi, an old Soren rival.
