Jan Drago has been on the City Council for just eight years, but that gives her more seniority than seven of its eight other members.
Drago's and Firestone's political differences were apparent when both made the rounds of district Democratic Party organizations to seek their endorsements -- a political necessity in heavily Democratic Seattle, even in non-partisan races.
Drago slugged back, pointing out Firestone's activism in the Green Party and his backing of Green presidential candidate Ralph Nader, whom many Democrats blame for the defeat of Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election.

Drago, along with the citizens group, is proposing changes to Department of Design, Construction and Land Use design review guidelines, as well as changes to subdivision and short-plat regulations that would require identification, preservation or replacement of existing trees.
Drago's recommendations focus on new construction in single-family zones, where she said the greatest number of trees are in danger of being taken down and not replaced during development.
Drago's proposal is modeled after a program in Portland which requires replacing trees removed due to construction.

Vivian Drago honored for support of SMSU-WP WEST PLAINS, Mo.- Long-time advocate of Southwest Missouri State University-West Plains (SMSU-WP), Vivian Drago, was recently honored for her service to the university during a luncheon meeting of the SMSU-WP Development Board.
Drago was given a plaque by SMSU-WP Chancellor Kent Thomas honoring her for "her leadership, vision and commitment to an improved quality of higher education at SMSU-WP and for serving as our representative on the SMSU Foundation from October 1995 to October 2001."
Drago also has received the President's Medallion for her support of the university through her contributions of property and stock.

In her letter to Nickels, Drago said the budget sent to the council by Nickels isn't sustainable, cuts health services to the poor and relies on one-time revenues.
In addition, Drago said in the letter, Nickels didn't provide a plan for dealing with a $6 million budget gap, the result of a state Supreme Court ruling this week on street lights.
