Jan Kounen, a film documentary on Amma: Darshan, The Reality
Kounen is rising star in modern film, a director with a subtle eye, whose films often possess a dreamlike quality.
Kounen first thought the birthday itself would bring him all the footage he needed, but deciding he wanted more, he brought his crew along for spots of Her 2003 Europe Tour, part of the 2004 North India Tour and then for a couple weeks this September back in Kerala.
Kounen says that he was unable to receive Amma’s darshan that night because it would have taken until 6:00 in the morning and he had film work to do early the next day.

Blueberry review - movie review of the Jan Kounen film starring Vincent Cassel
As the film opens with some impressive aerial and wide angle shots, it is obvious that director Jan Kounen, the author of the controversial and misunderstood Doberman—another target of the lynch mob mentality of the French press— knew his handicap as a Frenchman taking the reins of a western.
Kounen is a well-known provocateur and it's certain he enjoyed pushing the envelope one more time at the end of his film.
Kounen isn't able to develop his characters who walk, almost transparently, through the movie, including Blueberry-Cassel who isn't given enough thickness to have the charisma necessary to lead the picture nor the audience.

New Mappings · Jan Kounen, Blueberry
Jan Kounen’s adaptation of Jean Giraud (Moebius)’s comic is a peculiar film whose success depends largely on how you regard the status of the film.
I cannot decide if it is because of his French accent or if it is a deliberate choice, but when he says archetypal things like ’sonofabitch’ or similar, it never really sounds convincing, instead it sounds like him impersonating John Wayne and Clint Eastwood at the same time.
The spiritual sequences where computer graphics represent the supernatural side of Indian life are very well made and it is a nice touch that Kounen decided to visualize them this way.
