July 4, 1781 in Skierniewice - February 3, 1821 in Warsaw) was a Polish Colonel, the hero of Samosierra.
Jan was commander of the 1st Squadron of the 1st Chevau-Légers Lancers, Imperial Guard Regiment commanded by Wincenty Krasinski during the Napoleonic Wars.
In the Polish (Congress) Kingdom, Jan became the commander of the 4th Uhlan Regiment.

Jan 5 2005, 12:39 AM The battle of Somosierra was won not by Polish hussars, but Polish 'Szwolezery', which is a similar regiment to the hussars, small differences.
The man who led his szwolezery to this beautiful victory was Jan Kozietulski who with his (about)200 szwolezer's broke through an army of a couple thousand, the charge lasted about 8 minutes, it was after this charge that Napoleon reocgnized this regiment as his bravest.
