	Jan Lorenc Interview
		A Polish immigrant, Lorenc literally left his family farm for the Warsaw airport by horse and buggy and, upon arrival, was driven to his new Chicago home in a pink Cadillac.
		He founded Jan Lorenc Design in 1978 with his wife Barbara, and changed the name to Lorenc Design in 1981 when he moved the firm to Atlanta in pursuit of broader creative opportunities.
		Jan cultivates the diversity so essential to his character by employing a staff with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise.

		If it is true that work done well goes unnoticed, then Jan Lorenc's efforts may be some of the most inconspicuous niceties in the Southeast.
		Lorenc, M Arch '94, formed his firm in Chicago in 1978 after graduating from the Illinois Institute of Technology's design school with a bachelor's in industrial design and a master's in visual design.
		Lorenc himself returned to school for his master's in architecture from Tech; partner Chung Youl Yoo holds a bachelor's in industrial design (1987); and Steve McCall, Arch '81, M Arch '83, brings more architectural experience to the mix.

		An earlier ruling handing Alojz Lorenc a 15-month suspended sentence for abuse of public office was upheld by a court in Trenčín April 24, bringing a definitive end to a process that began with his arrest for communist crimes in 1990.

		Lorenc, a Slovak, refused to serve the sentence in the Czech Republic after Czechoslovakia split into the Czech and Slovak republics the following year.

	Jan Karski - How One Man Tried to Stop the Holocaust!
		Jan Karski, a liaison officer of the Polish underground who infiltrated both the Warsaw Ghetto and a German concentration camp and then carried the first eyewitness accounts of the Holocaust to a mostly disbelieving West, died Thursday in the Washington, D.C., area.
		Karski was his nom de guerre; he had been born Jan Kozielewski, the youngest of eight children of a patriotic, Roman Catholic family, in Lodz, Poland's second-largest city, on April 24, 1914.
		He had been a prize student and had been recruited into the Polish diplomatic service, where was quickly given coveted assignments to London and Paris.
