		Masaryk is particularly interested in the fact that, in contrast to contemporary German liberals, Palacký and his disciple Karel Havliek criticizing the continental liberalism of 19th century did not see the State as the primary instrument of social organization.
		Masaryk considered this view of sociology to be absolutely essential for the true politician, just as Plato had thought philosophy to be, so that "statesmen would no longer think in terms of expediency, for their every step will be aimed at the good of the whole."
		Masaryk saw a parallel between the close connection between morality and politics and that between ethics and sociology.
