Jan Tomaszewski is now 51 and lives fairly modestly - the route to his house is strewn with graffiti-covered walls - in the industrial town of Lodz, 70 miles south of Warsaw.
It was England's misfortune that Tomaszewski, in boyhood, had suffered the usual fate of being ordered to keep goal at school because of his size.
There are, however, some things you cannot put a price on, and Tomaszewski will always be able to reach for the remote control and relive the memory of that night at Wembley when he broke a nation's heart and finished Alf Ramsey's managerial career.Or at least he will when his mate brings the video back.
