Jan van Huysum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jan van Huysum (April 15, 1682, Amsterdam - February 8, 1749, Amsterdam), was a Dutch painter.
But what van Huysum has not is the breadth, the bold effectiveness, and the depth of thought of de Heem, from whom he descends through Abraham Mignon.
Some of the finest of van Huysum's fruit and flower pieces have been in English private collections: those of 1723 in the earl of Ellesmere's gallery, others of 1730-1732 in the collections of Hope and Ashburton.

Unlike most Dutch still life specialists, Jan van Huysum insisted on working out the details of his paintings from close study of the world around him.
Van Huysum was also a prolific draftsman whose drawings served as both preliminary studies and finished works.
The profuse bouquets that won Van Huysum an international reputation included flowers from all seasons, arranged with elegance and seeming spontaneity in various states of bloom and demise.
