Mark Thomas | Globalization Under Fire | Labour/Le Travail, 55 | The History Cooperative
In the first section, Gelinas constructs a brief timeline of world economic history and identifies the origins of globalization as lying in first, the establishment of the Bretton Woods financial institutions in the 1940s, and second, the financial deregulation that occurred with the end of the gold standard in the 1970s.
Unlike Bacon, however, while considering the role of various actors in promoting alternatives to corporate globalization, Gelinas dismisses the role of trade unions, claiming that unions are both "too integrated into the system to challenge it" and that unions have been too weakened and disoriented by globalization.
Kennedy and Lavalette use the case to make the argument that localized activism is still needed to challenge the globalizing tendencies of contemporary capitalism.

She accepted a position in London, where Kennedy was hired as a scenic painter and model maker, contributing to projects ranging from designing windows for the Harvey Nichols retail stores to sculpting a replica of Stonehenge for the BBC.

Most of the film's actors, including Sam Neill (best known for roles in "Jurassic Park," 1993, and "The Hunt for Red October," 1990), are from Australia or New Zealand.
The other best-known face of the bunch is an American actor, Patrick Warburton (TV's "Dave's World" and "Seinfeld"), who plays Al Burnett, a by-the-book NASA expert sent to ensure the mission's success.
All the main players turn in charming performances within the limitations of their characters, and the film does bring home the danger, blind luck and reckless heroism of the Apollo 11 mission, an effort launched before NASA knew if the men it was sending to the moon could get back to Earth safely.

IGN: The Little Comedy That Could
March 14, 2001 - The Dish is the second film from Australian director Rob Sitch and his closely-knit group of co-writers, Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner, and Jane Kennedy, the same folks that created The Castle, one of the most successful films in Australian history.
Familiar elements from The Castle can be found in The Dish, namely the warm and gushy feelings that come along with witnessing the triumph of the human spirit, and, as Sitch points out, “humility seemed to be the theme” in light of the magnitude of the mission portrayed in The Dish.
The casting of the characters Cliff Buxton, the wise and resolute supervisor of dish operations, and of NASA representative Al Burnett, an equally muted scientist bearing the flag of American know-how, were critical.
