Jannat al-Baqi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shias come to Jannatul Baqi to pay respect to their leaders, and this often involves invoking the dead and reciting salutations.
However, this goes against the principles of Islam, and the result is that often books and maps of the graves are confiscated by the authorities.
Women are also not allowed to visit the graveyard in Islam and so many women, Shia and Sunni, wishing to visit the graves, are disallowed by the authorities, which can lead to tensions between the sects.
