A study in the January issue of Headache looked at weekly headache patterns in 112 patients with migraine without aura and 106 with tension-type headache.
Weekend headache might be a "let down" headache after the stress of the work week, a caffeine withdrawal problem for people whose coffee intake is higher during the week, or a result of changed sleep patterns on the weekend.
The antidepressant sertraline (Zoloft) was not effective as a migraine preventive according to a study in the January issue of Headache.

 Yugoslav Government War Crimes in Racak(Press Release, January 1999)
The January 15 attack might have been provoked by a well-prepared KLA ambush near Dulje (west of Stimlje) on January 8, in which three Serbian policeman were killed and one was wounded.
One young women said that the police stayed on the hill singing songs and calling her relative by name in the Albanian language ("Aziz, come here to see your dead relatives!"), which suggests that local policemen from Stimlje who were familiar with the residents of Racak may have participated in the attack.
On January 18, Chief Prosecutor of the ICTY, Louise Arbour, attempted to enter Kosovo through Macedonia in order to "investigate the reported atrocities in Racak." She did not have a Yugoslav visa, having been denied one by the authorities, and was refused entry into the country.

  Progress Toward Interrupting Indigenous Measles Transmission --- Region of the Americas, January 1999--September 2000
From January 1999 through September 16, 2000, 28 (68%) of 41 countries in the region reported no measles cases, including Cuba, the English-speaking Caribbean countries, and most of Central and South American countries.
In 1999, 3091 confirmed cases were reported from 11 countries, 78% fewer cases than in 1998 and 94% fewer than in 1997 (Table 1).
From January through September 16, 118 confirmed cases were reported; 110 were associated with five outbreaks affecting rural, unvaccinated children and young unvaccinated adults who had immigrated from rural areas.

Released on January 5, this new study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) reports a rise in the proportion of state inmates who used drugs (including alcohol) in the month before their arrest and an increase in use by federal inmates within prisons between 1990 and 1997.
In the same period, the proportion of state inmates receiving drug abuse treatment fell from 24.5% in 1991 to 9.7% in 1997, and the numbers of inmates in treatment in federal prisons fell from 15.7% to 9.2%.
