Im heading to Japan for 11 days in early July!My initial plan was to get the JR pass after my friend told me she didnt pay too much for it.
I used to live in japan, and have never seen nor been in any situation that could be considered even remotely dangerous (unless your allergic to fish).
Also Japan is the least scary place for crime - we stayed in Ikebukuro in Tokyo for 4 nights and it is supposed to be a little dodgy, but it was absolutely fine.
