The president of Japan Asia Airways, is pressing the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to revise the treaty Japan has with mainland China on aviation.
He is seeking abolishment of the provisions that the same airline cannot serve both Taiwan and mainland China, and any airline serving Taiwan must use Haneda, a domestic, but convenient Tokyo area airport, and not Narita, the inconvenient international airport.
He pointed out that mainland China permits Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways and Northwest Orient to serve both Taiwan and Beijing (not on the same flight) and Panam is apparently going to do the same.
