  THE JAPAN FOUNDATION NEW YORK
Established in 1972 by special legislation in the Japanese Diet, the Japan Foundation became an Independent Administrative Institution in October 2003.
The mission of the Japan Foundation is to promote international cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and other countries.
The Foundation maintains its headquarters in Tokyo and operates through a network of 19 overseas offices in 18 countries worldwide.

 The Asia Foundation
In 1998, The Asia Foundation, working together with the Japan campus of Temple University, initiated a 10-week 20-hour pilot course titled, “International English for NGOs,” the aim of which was to increase the capability of Japanese NGO staff to work with foreign counterparts.
The Foundation also cooperated with the Japan U.S. Community Education Exchange organization to hold a series of workshops aimed at assisting Japanese NGOs in the design and launching of English-language websites with a view to facilitating closer contacts between Japanese and U.S. NGOs.
In 2002, the Foundation also initiated an international symposium on “The State and the NGO.” More than 160 NGO staff, academics, and journalists attended presentations by U.S., Dutch, and Japanese practitioners on the ideal relationship between international NGOs delivering humanitarian and social development assistance and the state agencies whose funds they dispense.

The Japan Foundation is now inviting applications from full-time secondary schoolteachers and from those working in the administration of secondary education with previous teaching experience, to the Japan Foundation's annual two week Study Tour to Japan.
The Tour offers a valuable introduction to Japan's education system, society and culture, aiming to deepen participants' understanding of the country and to enhance their teaching resources.
Fully funded by the Japan Foundation, the Study Tour is organised in co-operation with the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; and local Prefectural Boards of Education.

The Dialogue project was designed to exchange ideas among environmental education professionals in Japan and the U.S. by focusing on the current debate surrounding education for sustainability and identifying model community partnerships.

Those proposals submitted for The Japan Foundation's support must be within the disciplines of humanities or the social sciences and must be related in substantial part to Japan.
Any change in the grant period specified in the award is possible only upon the Foundation's prior approval; please note, however, that extension of a fellowship beyond the period specified in the award will not be considered.

The National Pre-collegiate Japan Projects Network was formed and co-coordinated by Linda Wojtan at the University of Maryland and Donald Spence at East Carolina University.
