Oginga Odinga was born in 1912 at Bondo in Nyanza Province, Kenya, a member of the Luo people.
From 1940 to 1942 Odinga taught mathematics at the Church Missionary Society school at Maseno, and from 1943 to 1946 he was headmaster of the Maseno Veterinary School.
Odinga, a leader of the second largest ethnic group, the Luo, was appointed minister for home affairs in 1963, and in 1964 he became vice-president.

It is pointed out in your feature that Jaramogi's key speeches both locally and abroad are preserved on video cassettes, and this is certainly a point of public interest, as I am one amongst several who would want to purchase a copy of the same.
That Jaramogi's famous clash with Mzee Kenyatta in 1969 was key in regulating the excesses of the regime then, is also not in dispute.

Raila Odinga's father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga is reported to have said in a speech to the post-independence Lancaster House Constitutional Conference(1960), in the UK that "Kenya is Marwa", prompting all the white colonialist conference participants to rush to the Library, to look up the expression, but to no avail.
The rift between Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the first president of Kenya bears striking similarities to the one existing between his son Raila Odinga and the current president Mwai Kibaki.
I am not sure what kind of a leader Raila Odinga might turn out to be if he were to become President of Kenya, but one thing I am certain of is that he has been the number catalyst in the struggle for democratic change in Kenya.
