Jaroslav Kurzweil po ukončení střední školy v roce 1945 studoval na přírodovědecké fakultě v Praze matematiku a fyziku.
V letech 1960-64 Kurzweil přispěl k nově vznikající matematické teorii regulace a započal základní výzkum v této oblasti v Československu.
let se Kurzweil vrátil k soustavnému vyšetřování součtově definovaných neabsolutně konvergentních integrálů přes vícerozměrné intervaly a jeho vědecké úsilí je i v dnešní době orientováno tímto směrem.

An Introduction to the Gauge Integral
This page gives an introduction to the gauge integral (also known as the Henstock, Kurzweil, or generalized Riemann integral), and compares it with the Riemann and Lebesgue integrals.
It was signed by Henstock, Kurzweil, and several other leaders of the gauge integral movement.
Henstock, Kurzweil, and other early researchers in this area were writing in rather specialized and technical terms for advanced audiences, so their ideas did not spread quickly at first.

An Open Letter to Authors of Calculus Books
The gauge integral (also known as the generalized Riemann integral, the Henstock integral, the Kurzweil integral, the Riemann complete integral, etc.) was discovered later, but it is a "better" integral in nearly all respects.
Therefore, we would like to suggest that in the next edition of your calculus textbook, you present both the Riemann and gauge integrals, and then state theorems mainly for the gauge integral.
In summary, we feel that the changes in the calculus book would not be major but would improve the teaching of calculus.

In 1957 Jaroslav Kurzweil gave a new definition of the integral, which in some respects is more general than Lebesgue's.
This is so with the books which the inventors themselves wrote, three books by Henstock and one by Kurzweil (see Bibliography at the end of this book).

Seminars in the Sewanee Math/CS Department
In 1902, Lebesgue defined an integral that could integrate more discontinuous functions than Riemann.
Then in the 1960's, Ralph Henstock and Jaroslav Kurzweil developed the generalized Riemann integral (also may be called the Henstock integral) that could not only integrate everything that Lebesgue and Riemann could and get the same value, but could integrate every derivative regardless of whether it is bounded or not.
The use of the generalized Riemann integral allows the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus to be stated without assuming integrability of the derivative.
