In contrast, this incident is not a direct quotation of a historical event from Jasher, as is the case in Joshua.
Perhaps that Book of Jasher from the Amoraim period was compiled from rabbinic sources such that it is a kind of digest of rabbinic traditions.

It contains references that fit those cited in the Biblical texts, both the reference about the sun and moon found in Joshua and also the reference in 2 Samuel (in the Hebrew but not in the Septuagint) to teaching the Sons of Judah to fight with the bow.
1, 1842, in reference to the patriarch Abraham : "the book of Jasher, which has not been disproved as a bad author, says he was cast into the fire of the Chaldeans".
It is sometimes confused with the very different Book of Jasher (Pseudo-Jasher), which is an obvious forgery.

Jasher 47:9 says Isaac dies, according to the chronology of Jasher, Joseph was in Egypt but in Gen. 35:29 Isaac died before Joseph had his dreams.
Jasher 81:3-4 claims that the Israelites sojourned in Egypt for 210 years whereas the Scripture says in Exodus 12:40-41 it was 430 years.

But the book of Jasher records, "And in the fifty-ninth year of the life of Isaac the son of Abraham, Rebecca his wife was still barren in those days" (Jasher 26:1).
The book of Jasher tells us: "And Joseph was very aged, advanced in years, and his two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, remained constantly in the house of Jacob, together with the children of the sons of Jacob their brethren, to learn the ways of the Lord and his law" (Jasher 55:35).

Jasher contains the injunction that the children of Judah should learn the art of the bow and David considered the Book of Jasher of such high authority that if it commanded to teach the art of the bow, he was determined to do it.
His defense is presented in Jasher as true, but it is difficult to believe because his alibi was that he mistook Cain to be an animal, and then when he and his son discovered his mistake, he clapped his hands together so violently that he accidentally killed Tubalcain also (Jasher 2:26-31).
Jasher is like the book of Alma which chronicles the wars, and includes some inspired sermons, but very few revelations.

The Book of Jasher is one of the sacred books which should have been included among the other books of the Bible but which was omitted as were many other books.
Incidentally, "Jasher" is not a person's name but is the Hebrew word for "Upright." Like the Book of Jubilees, the Upright Record is a retelling of the Genesis story from a different person's perspective other than Moses'.
Since the Book of Jasher is not considered a religious document but a historical narrative, however, some of its stories may have been embellished or may contain inaccuracies.

The version of the book of Jasher that you have seen is likely one that was produced by a Jacob Ilive, a London printer, who published his own version of the book of Jasher in 1751.
This work thoroughly examines the two editions of the Book of Jasher and concludes that it is "a shameless literary forgery." According to Dr. John Kitto in his famous Cyclopedia of Biblical Literature, fraud was again exposed in the Dublin Christian Examiner, in 1831, and again in the Bristish Critic, January 1834.

The Book of Jasher is mention in both in Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1:18 (though if you use NIV they spell it Jashar).
Note, just because it is mentioned in the Bible or refered to - doesnt mean that it is inspired by God (the book of Jasher i mean), it just may have some truths found in there.
The book of Jasher is an Interesting read mentioned in the Bible.
