In the year 1656 the king of Poland Kazimierz in a ceromonious vow committed the nation of Poland under the authority, care and defence of madonna of Jasna Góra choosing her to be the patron of Poland.
On the terrains of the Jasna Góra cloister one can hear from the pilgrimage guides that "it is a place for Poles and it is not only a place to which people go so as to give a proof of their faith".

One of the oldest documents from Jasna Góra states that the picture travelled from Jerusalem, via Constantinople, to finally reach Czętochowa in August 1382.
The Black Madonna is credited with miraculously saving the monastery of Jasna Góra (English: Bright Hill) from a Swedish 17th century invasion, The Deluge, which actually changed the course of the war.
This event led King Jan Kazimierz to crown Our Lady of Częstochowa (the Black Madonna) as Queen and Protector of Poland in the cathedral of Lwów on April 1, 1656.

"On 6 August 1655, on this grim news, a council of war was held in the monastery of Jasna Gora under the leadership of Teofil Bronowski, the Priorship of Augustine Kordecki, and garrison commander of the fortress Colonel Jan Pawl, herb Cellari.
Previously, the commander of the garrison of the Jasna Gora fortress, Colonel J.P. Cellari, was instructed by king Jan II Kazimier to organize a partisan brigade in the region.
He started politely, arguing that it was not the shrine he had been ordered to seize but the town of Czestochowa, and as the Jasna Gora monastery dominates the town, he must of mere necessity occupy the shrine.

While praising farmers' hard work at the harvest festival at the Jasna Góra national shrine (3 September) Buzek took the opportunity to point out increases in government spending on agriculture.
He noted that the state had allocated "50 per cent more money from the budget than in previous years," adding that the government's emergency purchases of grain totalled some four million tons.
AWS (Solidarity Electoral Action) leader Marian Krzaklewski, Samoobrona leader Andrzej Lepper and PPL (Polish Peasant Party) leader Jarosław Kalinowski were also busy campaigning in the countryside this week attending the same (previously mentioned) harvest festival at Jasna Góra.
