Fran Cotton, the former Lions and England prop, paid tribute last night to Jason Leonard, who announced yesterday that he was to retire from international rugby at the end of the Six Nations, by stating that Leonard's world record of 114 caps may never be equalled.
Leonard came on as a substitute during England's night of delight in Sydney, so earning the World Cup winner's medal that had eluded him when losing to Australia in the 1991 final.
Leonard is the third member of England's World Cup-winning squad to retire, after Martin Johnson and Kyran Bracken also decided to call it a day.

Rugby World Cup winner Jason Leonard was in Birmingham today to support an inner city school which has a thriving rugby team even though they do not have a grass pitch to play or train on.
Leonard, the former NEC Harlequins and England prop, has taken up an ambassadorial role with the coaching scheme since he retired from playing which is why the world's most-capped rugby player was in Birmingham today.
Leonard will be presenting the prizes on the second day of the tournament which is being staged at the birthplace of rugby for the third consecutive season.

Harlequins legend Jason Leonard, rugby's most capped player, announced this week he will retire from the game at the end of the Zurich Premiership season, writes Tom Harvey.
Leonard, having spent 14 years with Harlequins, is hoping to make his last appearance for the club in the Parker Pen Challenge Cup Final against Montferrand at Reading on May 22, although a foot problem may rule him out.
So far Leonard has played in 272 first-team games for Harlequins and was an integral part of the sides that won the 1991 Pilkington Cup and 2001 European Shield.
