Jason X - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jason X is a science fiction and slasher film.
Because very little of that film's story was finalised at the time, Jason X was set in the future so as not to confuse the continuity of the series.
Jason has been finally captured by the government, but at the failure of execution, the killer is being prepared for cryogenic suspension until further notice.

Jason X, the newest film in the long running series, was an attempt by the Cunningham's to bring a new life to a series that had apparently run out of ideas.
Jason X was finished right around when Mike Deluca, head of production at New Line, was fired, and the film was thus shelved for around a year and a half.
Jason X is also enjoyably post-modern in many scenes, which amount to perhaps the best moments of the film.

 Jason X
Jason X is one of those fanboy creations that can't decide if it wants to make fun of what it loves or pay duty to its gruesome-philia with an embarrassed cameo by David Cronenberg.
But on the other hand, Jason X fears that its audience may not be savvy to the gimmick and thus provides constant clarifications of its cleverness.
Jason X holds within it the seeds of something sly and fun, but what it proffers is a geek wonderland of loudly announced (and then explained) in-jokes and, ironically, the same kind of prurient gewgaw it seeks to undermine.

As to the universal appeal of Jason, Isaac's sure the key is the simplicity of the character.
As Jason's alter-ego Kane Hodder will tell you, the film starts off with a fatality frenzy, when a heavily chained and sedated Jason is strung up like a piece of meat at a cryogenic freezing lab in 2010.
What's great about Jason X is its salute to earlier films in the series, even taking Jason back to a virtual-reality Crystal Lake, where he meets two bursting-at-the-seams cheerleaders which he dispatches creatively with two sleeping bags.

Apparently not, as Jason X – the latest installment in the long-running Friday the 13th series – hauls out once again all of the ridiculous elements that once decimated the franchise’s credibility, only to produce an equally horrible sequel.
Ignoring the fact that hockey mask-sporting Jason Voorhees had his Final Chapter in 1984 or was banished to hell in 1993’s The Final Friday, the new Jason X opens with the ruthless fiend (Kane Hodder) awaiting cryogenic treatment at the Crystal Lake Research Facility.
Jason X lacks a sense of panic, simply setting up an endless wave of victims for Jason to mow down.

 Salon.com Arts & Entertainment | "Jason X"
The "Friday the 13th" series, with its hockey-masked antihero Jason Voorhees and its endless procession of cut-up nubiles, is pretty much the unloved stepchild of the horror genre.
Some of the "Friday" films, including "Jason X" -- the 10th in the series but the first since 1993 -- claim to be based on characters invented by Victor Miller, co-writer of the first movie in 1980.
Actually, if you stick with "Jason X" through its dreary and resolutely unscary setup and its hackneyed "Alien"-style plot -- in which Jason, awakened from his cryogenic stupor in a predictably foul mood, wanders through a spaceship dispatching bimbos and bozos of the future -- it gets much more watchable in the last half-hour.

The plot centers around a group of teenage students in the year 2455 who stumble upon two cryogenically frozen specimens--one a woman who is brought back to life, and the other a machete wielding maniac wearing a hockey mask.

However, there is a pretty horrifying scene when Jason freezes a girls head, only to then smash it against a table.

Jason has been slicing and dicing since almost the beginning of the first slasher craze, and, while he was never as scary as Michael Myers or as sadistically witty as Freddy Krueger, he amassed a sizable following during his heyday.
Most of Jason X takes place on a space ship in the 25th century, which allows the filmmakers to repeatedly rip off Aliens, with Jason standing in for the H.R. Giger's creature.
Of course, after Jason is felled, he just happens to fall in a place where the space ship's auto regenerate feature comes into play.

Until the last 10 minutes when Jason gets a robotic upgrade and is tricked into slashing his way through a holographic homage to the original "Friday the 13th" (complete with topless campers in pigtails begging for sex), the comic relief in "Jason X" is pathetic.
Example: The space ship's resident nerd starts making out with a robot girl he built, then soups her up to battle Jason in a scene that looks like a "Matrix" rip-off with a budget of about $6.
Whether "Jason X" is this bad on purpose is never clear.

Freddy vs. Jason was the most successful film of both franchises and number one at the box office in the US for two weeks.
