Jasper County was organized formally on March 15, 1838, named in honor of the humble but patriotic Sergeant Jasper, of Carolina, who died in defense of his country in the Revolutionary War.
It is bounded on the north by the Kankakee River, which separates it form Lake and Porter, on the east by Stark, Pulaski and White, on the south by White and Benton counties, and on the west by the State of Illinois.
