Thigpen, a native of Jasper County, Mississippi, was a long-time resident of Picayune, Pearl River County, Mississippi.
Brice was one of the sons of the the Haynes and Thigpen slaves referenced earlier.

Jasper County history is recorded as far back as 1632, when traders listed the Seven Islands Crossing on the Ocmulgee River as the place they first traded with the Creek Indians.
Jasper County was originally called Randolph Co, named for Representative John Randolph of Virginia, it was created by the Georgia legislature on December 10, 1807, using land from Baldwin County.
Land in Baldwin County was distributed through the Lotteries of 1805 and 1807 and the districts of Baldwin which went to make up Jasper were included in the Lottery of 1807.

 Endangered Cemetery Report
This cemetery was partially cleared by the county in the early 1990's when county worker discovered it in the woods and undergrowth.
Per a Jasper County newspaper article (my copy is not dated), the Dept of Archives mandated the cleanup because of the grave of a Revolutionary Soldier (Edward Young Terral) as well as several Civil War Soldiers.
There are pioneer settlers of MS Territory buried there with some of their descendants, and it is shameful that such an historic place is completely neglected and unmarked.

Alma was very close to her Aunt Mattie Donald Clark, the granddaughter of Mary and Robert Donald, who had told her the names of her grandparents....The *Mary* is corroborated by the census of 1850 for Jasper County Mississippi, which lists Robert and Mary Donald with 2 small children...the eldest, Louisa, my great grandmother, and James.
Robert's family was on the 1880 Choctaw County Alabama census, his occupation listed as *coopering*, according to the World Book Dictionary, a *barrel maker.* Robert and Mary Donald had seven children, all born in Mississippi, but transplanted to near Gilbertown, AL.
He died 28 January 1891 in Robertson County Texas, and is buried at Ridge, Texas in a grave that has a nice monument.

Thomas Chiswell WIATT, known to friends and family as "Chiz," was born about 1845 in Mississippi, probably in Jasper County, which was the county of his father's residence for many years.
Chiz's father, Thomas Wiatt (we call him "Mississippi Thomas"), originally from Lynchburg, Virginia and a descendant of Rev. Haute Wyatt, had come to Mississippi around 1842, where he settled in Lake Como, Jasper County.
After the war, Chiz returned to Mississippi, where we find him in In 1870, aged 24 years, living in an "assylum" for the blind in Hinds County.
