Jasper McLevy was the Socialist party in Connecticut.
From 1932 on he regularly was the Socialist candidate for governor, expanding his vote to a high of 166,253 in 1938, a decisive factor in the defeat of Wilbur Cross.
Ironically, McLevy's ouster from office in the late 1950s was a consequence of this conservatism.

Jasper McLevy (1878-1962) was an American politician who served as mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut from 1933-1957.
McLevy surprised the media and the public by winning the election, along with a Socialist majority on the Board of Aldermen, Bridgeport's city council.
In the vernacular of the time, McLevy was referred to as a "sewer socialist", a pragmatist who focused on the details of running a city.

SDF Leaders included Mayor Jasper McLevy of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Algernon Lee, president of the Rand School of Social Science, left the Socialist Party to form the SDF.
The most notable point of disagreement between the SDF and Thomas was the latter's willingness to allow the Trotskyist Communist League of America into the party.
