The Jatiya Party (Ershad) (National Party (Ershad)) is a political party in Bangladesh.
It is a faction of the original Jatiya Party, that was founded by the military dictator Hossain Mohammad Ershad.
Currently the Jatiya Party (Ershad) is the fourth largest party in Parliament; with 14 seats out of 300 available; and got a 7.5% share of the vote at the 2001 general election.

A political party intending to register itself with the EC shall submit an application signed by its president or secretary or persons holding equivalent status in the party to the secretary to the EC.
The application shall be accompanied by a copy of the constitution of the party, which shall contain a specific provision to the effect that the party shall bear true faith and allegiance to the constitution of Bangladesh and it shall uphold the sovereignty, unity and integrity of Bangladesh.
To conclude, unless and until the registration of political parties with the EC is made mandatory, the list of political parties may continue to swell which, according to many, may not be conducive to the successful functioning of parliamentary democracy in the country.

Through a four-party coalition, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Party (Naziur) and Islami Oikya Jote captured a two-thirds majority of seats in Parliament during the October 2001 general election.
Local political party activists were often among those targeted, and later were responsible for successfully petitioning government to end the operation in January of 2003.
The delegation's statement was well received by the Bangladesh public and media, and an agreement was brokered between the political parties to stop using hartals, to support domestic election monitoring efforts, to prevent the use of violence during the election period, to increase the number of women representatives in parliament, and to not boycott parliament.

Chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Naziur Rahman Manjur on Tuesday greeted Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman and former President Ershad for his stance to join the BNP-led four-party alliance, reports BD News.
Naziur, accompanied by his party Secretary General Saifur Rahman and other senior leaders, went to the Ershad's Banani office at about 12:45 pm and held a close-door meeting with him for half an hour.
All the 17 lawmakers of the party attended the meeting except GM Qader, the younger brother of Ershad.

But out of 111 invited parties, only fifty-three responded and attended the dialogue, sending a message that the vast majority of the country’s political parties did not consider the dialogue a worthwhile exercise.

According to the law, if any party boycotts the elections, the commission will have to fix another date of the election to its seats, and all the lawmakers will be allowed to nominate the candidates and to vote.
