When I attempted to install JDS the first time, the install crashed stating that the system was unable to mount the root partition immediately after starting the installation procedure; however, attempting to install again got me to the Java Desktop Configurator.
The system then detected the basic components of the hardware and displayed the default configuration, including disk partition, software to be installed, time zone, etc, all of which can be changed before proceeding.
System administrators should be thrilled to have JDS instead of Windows.
