The goals of the transliteration are readability of the generated Java source code, easy integration and interfacing with native Java code, little or no user interaction during the transliteration process, good performance, and basic C++ support.
The resulting Java source code can then be compiled using any JDK 1.1+ compliant Java Compiler and will run on any JDK 1.1+ implementation of the Java Virtual Machine as either an applet or application depending upon how the program is invoked (applets are subject to applet security restrictions).
Java bytecode can be generated either through a script which drives the assembler package, or directly accessing the assembler package from java.

A Java program (such as a Java applet) should be able to run on any computer provided a VM is available.
The standard Java VM is provided by Sun as a browser plug-in called the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
If the Sun Java logo is not in the taskbar, you probably need to enable it in the Java Plug-in Control Panel - select "Hide console" to show the taskbar logo but hide the console itself until you want to see it.

The VM ships with most versions of Windows and some versions of Internet Explorer, and is used to run programs called "applets" written in Sun Microsystems' Java language.
A VM component called the ByteCode Verifier does not correctly check for the presence of certain malicious code when the applet is being loaded, meaning that an attacker could slip malicious code onto a user's PC.
VM builds 5.0.3802 up to and including build 5.0.3809 were tested and found to be affected, although earlier builds are probably also vulnerable, the company said.

Recently, Java became a prominent language with a wide application spectrum, from embedded systems to enterprise servers.
The Java Virtual Machine (JVM), a software layer to execute Java bytecodes, while providing desirable features such as a "write-once, run anywhere model" for software developers, and security and portability for end-users, does not immediately lend itself to high performance.
Since the JIT compilation itself is part of the total execution time of a Java program, it must be fast and the benefit from compilation must outweigh the JIT compilation overhead.
