Javed's est career batting average of 52.57 puts him among the top flight of batsmen to have played international cricket, and he is one of only two batsmen in cricket history, the other being Herbert Sutcliffe, to maintain an average of above 50 throughout a career of more than 20 innings.
Javed learned his craft as a youngster on the tough, blue-collar streets of Karachi, and not surprisingly his technique flew in the face of most cricket coaching textbooks.
