Jan Jelinek & Computer Soup: Improvisations and Edits: Tokyo 26.09.2001: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Jelinek's relationship with jazz was a little fuzzy through his first three full-lengths, but this excellent collaboration with Japanese electronic improv trio Computer Soup makes the connection plain.
What makes the record remarkable is the way it refers back to the patterns and history of jazz, as well as our collective memories of the genre, while still managing to sound like another strand of music altogether.
DSP jazz modes are set against a walking bassline (possibly computer generated) and a gently tooted trumpet complete with Harmon mute, a dead ringer for Miles Davis' Prestige-era ballads.

The goal of any designer placing DSP functionality into their chip is to create an optimal balance between performance, die size, and power.
For evaluating most DSP solutions, the only way to reduce data memory requirements is through algorithmic techniques; for the purposes of this article, we can assume all solutions require the same data memory.
Critical to these customizable DSP processors is a solid architectural foundation, the ability to add and remove data path resources flexibly in the processor, and the ability to customize memory bandwidth and access.
