Jazz at the Philharmonic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jazz at the Philharmonic (JATP) was the title of a series of concerts and recordings produced by Norman Granz.
JATP ceased touring the United States in 1957, but continued intermittently in Europe and Japan for some years.
Many jazz enthusiasts gain pleasure from the concert recordings, but the events have often been criticised over the years for their perceived raucousness, lack of subtly and the inappropriate matching of musicians for the sake of a star-filled bill.

PBS - JAZZ A Film By Ken Burns: Selected Artist Biography - Ella Fitzgerald
She then embarked on a solo career, issuing commercial and jazz recordings, and in 1946 began an association with Norman Granz's Jazz at the Philharmonic, which eventually brought her a large international following.
Her voice is small and somewhat girlish in timbre, but these disadvantages are offset by an extremely wide range (from d to C'), which she commands with a remarkable agility and an unfailing sense of swing.
This enables her to give performances that rival those of the best jazz instrumentalists in their virtuosity, particularly in her improvised scat solos, for which she is justly famous.

Charlie Parker : Jazz at the Philharmonic 1946 ---Ink Blot Magazine
Considered the father of "modern" jazz, or bebop, Parker possessed an extraordinary combination of speed and grace, of technical virtuosity and deep emotion, all of which remained greatly informed by the blues.
In any case, this recording is the perfect album with which to understand the changes in jazz that Bird and bebop ushered in.
Jazz at the Philharmonic 1946 represents a changing of the jazz guard as Bird's bebop would soon surpass swing as the predominant style.

Chicago Jazz Philharmonic - The Jazz Photography of Mark Ladenson @ jazzreview.com
The Chicago Jazz Philharmonic was conceived and brought into being by Chicago trumpeter Orbert Davis to play compositions by him, and others, which attempt to achieve a synthesis of classical music and jazz--a genre dubbed "third-stream music" almost 50 years ago.
For its set at the 2004 Chicago Jazz Festival an orchestra consisting of 30 strings, harp, five brass and a rhythm section played music composed or arranged solely by Davis.
Unlike some other "third-stream music," these works, by and large, were tilted more to the jazz than to the classical side of the ledger.
