Riverside Records - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Initially the company was dedicated to reissuing early jazz material that had fallen into the public domain or was licensed from the Chicago-based Paramount Records label.
In 1955 the Prestige Records contract of Thelonious Monk was bought out for $108.24, and—at the suggestion of Randy Weston—Monk was signed by Riverside, where he remained for the next five years.
Almost all their new jazz recordings were produced by Keepnews, who served as creative head of the label (and several subsidiaries, most notably Jazzland Records), with Grauer directing the company's sales and business operations.

Norway’s Jazzland is slowly becoming one of the most forward-thinking jazz labels of its time, along the likes of ECM.
Both tracks were recorded during a series of Scandinavian gigs, and are here rearranged, reconstructed, or, as Kleive refers to them, decomposed.

When Aerosmith released it's very first record, there was little that could set their sound apart from the mass market of other artists of the early 1970's; but within three years, they quickly changed the minds of the American public.By the 1980's, the group, suffering mostly from addiction and ego issues, almost split up.
As records are very delicate, by nature and most of the records you will be dealing with will be somewhat aged, it is important to know how to handle your original LP.

PIXELSURGEON | Reviews | Gigs | The Matthew Herbert Big Band, Bugge Wesseltoft
Born from experimental pieces produced for the soundtrack of Blanca Li's breakdance documentary Le Défi, the big band concept evolved into an album of its own, Goodbye Swingtime, on which the touring show is based.
Working originally with samples taken from existing recordings, for the album Herbert enlisted the help of veteran arranger Peter Wraight, who adapted his ideas for live performance by a 16 piece big band.
His latest album, Film ing, on his own Jazzland label, is comprised entirely of edited live recordings, and it is this album from which tonight's set is drawn.

Just as the most distinctive labels (such as Blue Note or ECM) not only have a recognisable sound but also their own unique style, so Jazzland has now developed a look that matches the music.
To know that an album is on Jazzland is rapidly becoming recommendation enough for some of us.

Guitarist Eivind Aarset is probably responsible for the most exciting of the releases, which borrows heavily from the industrial and electric jazz scene, while improvisation is mixed with rhythms from European club culture.

That same year, Mangione signed with AandM Records and began scoring with one solid-selling album after another.

Oh, his tunes were recorded frequently, and that album with Coltrane was well respected, but there were as many detractors as there were those in awe of the great composer.
Griffin had played in Monk’s band before, and was on a string of work with the equally muscular tenor saxophonist Davis.
They decided to do a record of all Monk tunes, and the result is an unusual little record that doesn’t quite work, but doesn’t quite hurt, either.

Further, all three DJs represent a musical attitude typical for the new wave of Norwegian contemporary dance music: an urge to analyze principles from music history independent of the different genres to be spent in a futuristic, narrative way of telling stories.

Chuck Mangione is one of several talented "discoveries" to be credited to Cannonball Adderley, who first heard Chuck as a teen-aged trumpet player co-leading a band with his brother Gap in their home territory of upstate New York.
The debut album by the "Jazz Brothers" (as that band became known) was produced by Adderley, but Chuck's first solo effort--for Riverside Records' subsidiary Jazzland label--was put together by Orrin Keepnews.
It gave the youngster the valuable support of a major-league rhythm section: Wynton Kelly, Sam Jones, and Louis Hayes (the latter two then key members of Cannonball's group), and launched a long and formidably successful career.
