MARGUERITTE, PAUL (i 860-) and VICTOR (1866-), French novelists, both born in Algeria, were the sons of General Jean Auguste Margueritte (1823-1870), who after an honorable career in Algeria was mortally wounded in the great cavalry charge at Sedan, and died in Belgium, on the 6th of September 1870.
Paul Margueritte, who has given a picture of his home in Algiers in Le Jardin du passS (1895), was sent to the military school of La Fleche for the sons of officers, and became in 1880 clerk to the minister of public instruction.
Paul Margueritte had begun as a realistic novelist, but he was one of the five writers who signed a manifesto against Zolas La Terre, and he made his reputation by delicate, sober studies of the by-ways of sentiment.

The SF Site Featured Review: Le roi au masque d'or
Marcel Schwob was born in Chaville (Seine-et-Oise), France, on August 23, 1867.
The title story, supposedly loosely based Buddhist legend, is perhaps the darkest, one in which everyone in a gloomy castle is hiding behind masks: the doomed leper-king, his priests, his court fools and the women of the court.
In "Le pays bleu" a sickly young country girl takes the narrator into her home, and after some time eventually disappears, leaving a note that she has gone to "the blue world." In "Retour au bercail" a young girl in Paris longs to return to her home and job as a pig-keeper in the country.

Nevertheless, it was initially difficult to find a producer for the movie and it was shopped around for three years before actor Jean Gabin was finally able to raise financing for it because of his popularity.
The son of Impressionist painter Auguste Renoir, Renoir further demonstrated his artful realism with the use of exterior locations to add realism and long takes to allow scenes to unfold uninterrupted by jarring cutting.
