Wug test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The wug test is an experiment in linguistics, created by Jean Berko Gleason in 1958.
It was designed as a way to investigate the acquisition of the plural and other inflectional morphemes in English-speaking children.
The original Wug Test is reported in Gleason's article "The Child's Learning of English Morphology," Word 14:150-77 (1958).

Perhaps the first study to show the linguistic regularity and generative nature of children's language was the 1958 study by Jean Berko Gleason on children's productive use of morphology (Berko-Gleason, 1958).
She argued from her data that what the children were learning was rules and not just responses to stimuli that were then generalized to similar stimuli.
Gleason's mentor, Roger Brown conducted and directed other pioneering studies at Harvard and MIT during this time.

These tendencies was first identified by Jean Berko Gleason (1975) as the Bridge Hypothesis, which has since been the dominant theory in the area of gender-specific CDS.
The Bridge Hypothesis resulted from Gleason's observations of white middle-class families in which primary and secondary caregiver roles were clearly defined.
There are two important factors to consider: the amount of time a child spends with one parent versus the other, and the developmental stage of the child at a given point in life.

The new legitimacy of mind, thought, and language supported Roger's intellectual interests, and he and Eric Lenneberg, in one of their first collaborations, tested the highly publicized view of Benjamin Lee Whorf that the language of a community must influence the way the speakers remember and reason.
The extensive protocols were discussed with a gifted group of young colleagues that included Ursula Bellugi, Colin Fraser, Courtney Cazden, Jean Berko Gleason, David McNeill, Dan Slobin, Sam Anderson, Richard Cromer, and Gordon Finley.
A First Language: The Early Stages, published by Harvard University Press in 1973, generated a large number of provocative generalizations, even though it did not explain completely how children acquired language.
