 Jean Ingelow biography
Jean Ingelow biography was a popular nineteenth century English Poetess.
Jean Ingelow, the English poetess and novelist, was born at Boston, Lincolnshire, England in 1820.
Jean was a shy and meek child and though she contributed verses and stories to magazines under the name of “Orris” as a young girl, her first published work didn’t appear until she was thirty years old.

On the other hand, if we had nothing of Jean Ingelow’s but the most remarkable poem entitled Divided, it would be permissible to suppose the loss, in fact or in might-have-been, of a poetess of almost the highest rank.
Absolutely faultless it is not; a very harsh critic might urge even here a little of the diffuseness which has been sometimes charged against the author’s work generally; a less stern judge might not quite pardon a few affectations and “gushes,” something like those of Tennyson’s early work.
Jean Ingelow wrote some other good things, but nothing at all equalling this; while she also wrote too much and too long.

While everything about her indicated deep love for poetry, and a keen sense of the beautiful, her conversation, fluent and admirable, showed her to be eminently practical and sensible, without a touch of sentimentality.
Jean grew to womanhood in the midst of eleven brothers and sisters, without the fate of struggle and poverty, so common among the great.
For one so rich in imagination as Miss Ingelow, her prose is singularly free from obscurity and florid language.
