 Jean Jouzel - Biography
A devoted laboratory scientist, Jean Jouzel belongs to that community of scientists who are convinced – and concerned – by the extent of the potential problem posed by the rising concentrations of green-house gases associated with human activities and the urgent need to analyze all its facets.
Jean Jouzel is also a member of a number of academic societies (including the Geophysical Union and the International Glaciological Society), and a member of the Academia Europea since 1990.

CNN - Life found in Lake Vostok ice - December 10, 1999
The other possibility is that the microbes originated in the lake and became trapped as the lake water refroze to the glacier bottom.
Jean Jouzel, a scientist at the Centre Nacional de la Recherche Scientifique in France found evidence that the ice core sampled by the researchers indeed came from Lake Vostok water that refroze to the glacier.
"Jouzel et al did a beautiful job of showing that the deep ice below Vostok Station was accreted from liquid water below it.

United Press International: Ancient ice shows warming ahead of CO2
Instead of CO2 buildup, the ancient warming was driven by the Earth's position relative to the sun and the angle of its axis, explained co-researcher Jean Jouzel, a climatologist at the Pierre Simon Laplace Scientific Laboratory near Paris.
"You have changes in the oceanic circulation, which expels CO2, which is deep in the ocean," Jouzel continued.
Although the exact mechanism expelling the CO2 is not certain, what is clear -- said both Caillon and Jouzel -- is the role of CO2 in causing the melting of glaciers in the Northern Hemisphere.

return to floods: are there more extreme meteorological events today?
Many climatic models predict that the rise in average temperature on the surface of our planet will bring an increase in extreme meteorological events.
However, as Jean Jouzel, a climatologist at the LSCE (Saclay), explains, “since we cannot assert that there are more extreme meteorological events today, it seems very difficult to establish a link between the recent floods and global warming.
Yet Jean Jouzel insists: “Despite the lack of perspective that prevents us from reaching a conclusion today, there is no doubt whatsoever about the reality of climatic warming.
