I had a room on Place du Marche Sainte Catherine; it is a very lively Place and it is nice to see.
The hotel is located on the Place du Panthéon in the 5th arrondissement (Latin Quarter), directly across from the Panthéon.

One wasn't actually a reader of the site, but she had been begged (cajoled?) by a Vinography-reading friend to attend and was just showing up on the faith of a personal recommendation.
Altamura, for instance, sells their Cabernet in a bottle that looks more like it should have balsamic vinegar in it, but it sure is easy for me to pick it out on a rack (mostly because the damn thing barely fits).
Manresa was just awarded Four Stars by the San Francisco Chronicle, putting it on a par with The French Laundry and five other of the top dining destinations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I base this on the people you see, (about 80% locals, 20% tourists), the restaurants, bars and cafes, and the shops and the types of merchandise they sell.

 Which versions of La Folia have been written down, transcribed or recorded?
It was the work of Marais which served as point of departure and inspiration in my treatment of 'La Folía' theme; in fact, some of the variations in my piece have their roots in Marais' 'Les Folies d'Espagne' (1701).
In the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Alessandro Scarlatti, Marin Marais, Arcangelo Corelli and Johann Sebastian Bach were among the many composers who took this harmonic pattern as the basis for variations sets.
My piece was inspired by Marin Marais' wonderful set of folia variations for gamba, but is not based on or imitative of it.

Other than my precious saucisson sec, a few gifts and four pairs of fl trousers I had pressed in the Marais, pretty much everything else was still in the suitcase and carry-on bag.
The French Laundry Cookbook (Artisan, 1999) won an IACP trifecta: "Cookbook of the Year," "Best First Cookbook," and "Best Photography." Keller has opened a Bouchon at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas and two Bouchon Bakeries--one in Napa and one in New York City, where he has also opened Per Se.
If Bouchon, the book and photographs are half as good as Keller's The French Laundry Cookbook and the recipes half as delicious and as the fare one can enjoy at this Yountville restaurant, then we are all in luck (also published by Artisan).
