 8W - Who? - Jean-Pierre Beltoise
Beltoise, who had proved to be as fast on four as on two wheels, was chosen to drive the V12, together with Henri Pescarolo, who had also proved himself on the Formula 3 and 2, while Jackie Stewart and Johnny Servoz-Gavin were to run the Ford engined cars.
Beltoise drove for BRM in Formula 1 until - and including - 1974, but he was already ready to seat in the Matra team, whenever his former employee neede him, such as in Le Mans 1972 and 1974, though he never drove a winning car.
Heavy rain, 200.000 spectators, 25 racers, of which 17 finished, Beltoise ledaing from flag to flag and the certain victory for the French driver were characteristics of the 30th Grand Prix of Monaco, or 4th in the 1972 season.

Jean-Pierre Beltoise - Grand Prix Racing - the whole story
Beltoise may not have been amongst the very first rank when it came to Grand Prix driving, but he - was a dogged, determined performer and worthwhile team player whose versatility extended to some fine performances in the Matra sports car team.
The highlight of Beltoise's first F1 season was a splendid second place to Stewart in the rain- soaked Dutch GP at Zandvoort after which he was taken aboard into the Tyrrell camp as Stewart's number two for 1969.
At the end of that season Beltoise reached the end of the F1 road, but there was plenty of touring car racing still to be done before he finally called it a day.

f1 statistics - Jean-Pierre Beltoise : Autocourse Grand Prix Archive
Athough Jean-Pierre had done well enough on occasion, Matra signed Amon for 1971, frustrating the Frenchman's F1 aspirations, and it was not a happy season for Beltoise, who received a suspension when he was blamed for his involvement in the fatal accident that befell Giunti in the Buenos Aires 1000 Km.
This success encouraged Matra to continue with their racing activities, and Beltoise was the spearhead of the team's Formula 2 programme from 1966, winning the F2 class of the German GP and later the European F2 championship for non-graded drivers in 1968 when he won rounds at Hockenheim, Jarama and Zandvoort.
In 1969 Beltoise was placed in Ken Tyrrell's team as number two to Stewart while development work was undertaken on the V12 project and scored seven point-scoring finishes, but the following season he raced the new Matra MS120-V12 and was unlucky not to win the French GP when a puncture robbed him of the lead.
